Chocolate and Pear winter cake

Serves: 8

Prep: 15min

Cooking: 40-45min

As winter approaches, my craving for chocolate becomes bigger everyday. Last week with my friend Marco we were recalling his mum’s scrumptious chocolate and pear cake, it is so good I still remember it after many years. We called her and made it straight away. Here is a recipe for the perfect winter cake.

  • 1kg pears
  • 200gr dark chocolate
  • 150gr flour
  • 150gr sugar
  • 100g butter
  • 3 eggs
  • 8-10gr baking powder
  • Pinch of salt

  • 1 pot
  • 2 bowls
  • Whisk
  • Sieve
  • Round cake pan

  • Preheat the oven at 200°C
  • Place a pot with water to boil and on top of the pot, place a bowl with the butter and the chocolate in it (see pics below). The heat of the boiling water will melt the chocolate and the butter, mix together
  • In another bowl, whisk the eggs and the sugar, then add the sifted flour and mix again.
  • Add the chocolate and butter you melted before, the baking powder and a pinch of salt
  • Cut the pears in cubes and mix it into the dough
  • Grease the cake pan and pour the dough in it
  • Bake for 40-45min, check with a spaghetti if the cake is ready. If the spaghetti comes out dry but still a little humid then the cake is ready
  • Serve it cool with some whipped cream if you like
