As winter approaches, my craving for chocolate becomes bigger everyday. Last week with my friend Marco we were recalling his mum’s scrumptious chocolate and pear cake, it is so good I still remember it after many years. We called her and made it straight away. Here is a recipe for the perfect winter cake.
Ingredients:
- 1kg pears
- 200gr dark chocolate
- 150gr flour
- 150gr sugar
- 100g butter
- 3 eggs
- 8-10gr baking powder
- Pinch of salt
Tools:
- 1 pot
- 2 bowls
- Whisk
- Sieve
- Round cake pan
Method:
- Preheat the oven at 200°C
- Place a pot with water to boil and on top of the pot, place a bowl with the butter and the chocolate in it (see pics below). The heat of the boiling water will melt the chocolate and the butter, mix together
- In another bowl, whisk the eggs and the sugar, then add the sifted flour and mix again.
- Add the chocolate and butter you melted before, the baking powder and a pinch of salt
- Cut the pears in cubes and mix it into the dough
- Grease the cake pan and pour the dough in it
- Bake for 40-45min, check with a spaghetti if the cake is ready. If the spaghetti comes out dry but still a little humid then the cake is ready
- Serve it cool with some whipped cream if you like
